Hello, I am Emisha Ravani, writing this blog as a thinking activity for the topic of Why are we so scared of Robots and AIs? which id assigned by Dilip Barad sir. ‘Techno-culture and Risk’ with the reference of Ulrich beach and his thesis thesis ‘Risk Society- Towards a new Modernity (1992), we discussed the increased use of robots/ AIs in the world, how the robots/ Ais are demonstrated in Movies or in screens. Are they harmful or useful?
Creativity has been the backbone of human development for a long time and there will always be room for great people to produce great ideas in every walk of life. Machines aren’t going to be able to take away that from us. Robots have become an integral part of the manufacturing industry, but they’re also moving into other industries as well. As they continue to become a larger part of our society, people are voicing growing fears about them. Whether it’s a fear for their jobs, their lives, or something else entirely, it’s all built on a lack of knowledge.
In the first short film there is story of Robot, Mother and son. When Movie start Robot is cooking food for Son (Jungo) but Robot making it with Robot oil when mom came to know about that she became too worried about her son and tries to correct the code into Robot. Second time when son denied for drawing Robot forced him for doing and attacked on son. Mom became worried about whatever happened and remove all the memories form the Robot and remove cell from it and buried it in garden by saying that he is died and hired another Robot for son. This one is also doing same thing and wearing the clothes of old Robot so mom became worried about that and tried to checkout buried Robot which was still active and control another Robot. So mom very hardly remove cell and killed but she can not killed him then she say sorry for whatever she did with him and says that we are family so you can not kill me but Robot didn't listen and killed the mom as he wants to live with son.

They called it i- Mom. i- mom is helping in raising the children, people feel i-mom as personal trainer for the raising kids. Particular in this film story about the kid who doesn't like i- mom but his own mother don't have time to do care of him. But the kid don't like I-mom as she doesn't cook well. But there are version of i-mom as upgradation.
These are three sci-fi short films we were assigned to watch. Further in this blog I will answer the question based on these films.
After watching all these short films I realised that robots work on algorithms. They do what is told to them, they don't have their own understanding or power of spontaneous thinking. They get programmed that he/ she is its owner or master and that programming makes them emotionally attached to their master and try to love their masters but when it comes to others or overcoming feelings they fail in it.
Thank you!
